John Burkhardt

Project Director, Big Show Construction Management

John ‘Bowtie’ Burkhardt has a diverse background in managing construction projects and exhibition installations. From tunneling using frozen earth technology to the apex of tall skyscrapers, from establishing a new township in the open fields of South India to reconstructing one of the world’s busiest subway stations (while in operation), his talent for finding solutions has been developed from over 30 years of on-site experience working for some of the most prestigious construction companies in the world. His engineering skills are often applied to unconventional areas: developing installation processes for undulating concrete structures and site-deformed glass; threading projector beams through moving scenic elements, and creating locations for cameras, speakers, projectors, or personnel in presumed inaccessible locations; fulfilling oversight agency requirements in innovative and cost-saving ways. He’s always up for a good challenge. B.A. in Philosophy & Anthropology from Macalester College, St. Paul A.E. in Engineering from Wentworth Institute, Boston
