Coordinators Club: Mentoring Magic – Best Practices for a Successful Partnership

In the A/E/C industry we thrive on the generosity of those who elevate and sustain the marketing profession by sharing their knowledge, skills, and experience with the next generation of industry leaders — not to mention those open to learning new tricks themselves from emerging professionals.

Last year, Jeffrey Taub of AKRF and Jennifer Mannino of LAN Associates were paired by SMPS-NY for their first-ever involvement in a mentor/protégé program, and the lessons they learned along the way have propelled them to tackle new challenges with a fresh perspective. Together they covered everything from department structure, marketing plans, and time management to proposals, communications, conferences, and more.

Join Jeff and Jen to hear how structure and organization formed the backbone of a successful partnership while maintaining the flexibility to address urgent issues as they arose. They will share insights into the importance of meeting agendas and follow-through, face-to-face engagement, and honesty and transparency in all matters of career aspiration and advancement.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the unique benefits offered by an independent mentor/protégé relationship and why your manager is not your mentor.
  • Learn how mentor/protégé relationships can help influence your career development in profound ways.
Understand the importance of honesty and transparency in promoting a mutually beneficial mentor/protégé relationship.
  • Gain valuable insights into setting and tracking substantive goals that benefit you and your firm.
