Chances are you have met January’s member of the month Scott Stelzer before, but if not, you should certainly make an effort to. With a civil engineering background, he brings a new dimension to his role as an account executive for Imaginit Technologies. His industry knowledge is also a welcomed facet for SMPS-NY as he serves as co-chair of the Membership Committee and a contributor to both the Public Relations and Communications Committees. Read below, as Scott has shared some personal and professional insights with us. 1. Where are you from originally and what brought you to New York City? I grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. My wife and I met and married in Chicago, but she grew up in Westchester and had an opportunity to move back with her job, so here we are! 2. Being the first Member of the Month for 2013, can you share with us one of your favorite New Year’s memories? A group of us did the New Year’s Eve Midnight Run in Central Park last year and had a great time. Full costumes, and dessert at two in the morning.

Studying improv at Second City allowed me to free myself from always feeling like there was only one “right” way to approach things. It allowed me to think more creatively about business. It also creates a safe environment to take risks, which then can be applied in the rest of life. And, finally, it was just a lot of fun! 4. What would you say most motivates you to be an account executive at Imaginit Technologies? My best days are when I’m talking with a client who has made the investment in time, energy, and money in the tools and services we provide and I hear about a new job they won or how well the project they are working on is going. My goal and my motivation are to help my clients be as successful as they want to be. 5. Can you tell us more about your position as an account executive at Imaginit Technologies? I sell software to AEC firms and owners, both from Autodesk (Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc) and from our own titles, and, more importantly, I sell consulting and training services to help firms get better use out of their technology investment. Building information modeling (BIM) and laser scanning (we also sell Leica laser scanners) are large focuses of mine. I think of myself as an educator, a connector, and a problem solver. My favorite clients are the ones that are creative not only about their designs, but also about their business. They want to have a two-way conversation: These are our business goals, how can you help get us there? 6. Lastly, what is your motto?
