Admittedly, I have been chasing rainbows most of my life. By (nonscientific) definition, a rainbow is a wide range or variety of related and typically colorful things, they keep the dreamers going. Perhaps that’s how I landed in New York City over eight years ago and why I’m writing to you today from the SMPS-NY President’s desk. I couldn’t help but to theme my Presidency to rainbows, unicorns and sparkle shares, my goal is to instill this representative magic into the everyday life of this incredible Chapter.
SMPS has always been a platform for me to create magic. Yes, I’m back on the Board of Directors after 5 years and I am surprised by the incredible changes that have happened since I last sat around the table as the Director of Professional Development and TME (which, alas, won’t be held this year, but we will host the Northeast Regional Conference (NERC) in May 2020 for the first time!). SMPS-NY embraces change with open arms…along with new leadership to our Board and new ways to engage chapter members, I know it will be an exciting year ahead.
This September, I’ve challenged our leadership to synchronize all of our efforts for the year. We’re aligning themes and exploring possible outcomes together so we can build on one another. We want SMPS to keep its momentum in New York as a go-to resource for marketers and business developers, because we want to teach and learn how to do our everyday jobs BETTER. Recently, SMPS HQ in DC realigned the organization’s strategic vision as “Business Transformed Through Marketing Leadership”. This refreshed vision signals a commitment to amplifying marketing’s influence across the AEC industries. This means that SMPS-NY will shift gears and develop programming, networking opportunities and membership perks to support this overall vision.
Open-minded, fresh ideas and creative ways of thinking will be highlights from our upcoming programs this Fall! Look out for the WHV Affiliate’s Economic Development Hotspots Forum on 10/10, Long Island Affiliate’s Creating A Firmwide BD Culture and our first program of the year on The Horizon of NYC Infrastructure 10/30 at Haworth.
So, how does this all tie in to rainbows, sparkles, and unicorns? It all comes down to my mantra for the year: Go Get. Just Ask. Share Sparkle.
Want information about AEC marketing? We’ve got it for you here! If you don’t ask, how will you know? I challenge you to be bold and share who you are and your ideas, your Sparkle!, with our community, just remember to stop and admire those rainbows when they appear.
