Bringing on the Cheer(s)
Wow! I can’t believe it’s here, y’all. Just like the return of cooler temperatures (well, almost), the start of football, and orange slowly seeping into the background, it’s the start of a new year of SMPS New York. Welcome to the 2018-2019 year!
In this first three weeks at the helm (and to be honest way before then), I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about what our chapter –you, our members – need. Whether it’s from a personal, professional, or membership perspective, I think we are all searching for something a little more this year. Our world is at a crossroads. We all need a little cheer.
So I’m here to do what I can to bring that aforementioned cheer into this year as President. And I’m not talking about cheering on the sidelines in a mini skirt, I’m talking about in-your-face cheer! I’m making it my personal mission to support every member in any way I can. I want to be able to, along with the Board of Directors, help motivate our members into realizing their potential, whether it be what they can do for their firms, their personal lives, and of course, what they can accomplish in our organization.
So let’s start by getting together more often and starting conversations. We have a number of events this Fall suited for a variety of needs: learning skills for your job, meeting new people, making new business connections, or just taking advantage of your membership in SMPS. Our chapter is ready to cheer you on to a meaningful membership.
On the flipside, our chapter needs the support of our members, too. So come out to our programs. Come have a drink at our New Member Mixer and regale the group about how long you’ve been in our industry. Come to our 14th annual THE Marketing Event and learn how to tell your firm’s story. Whatever you choose to get involved with, know that our chapter is nothing without our members and their support.
Nobody said this role was going to be easy, and I can already tell I have my work cut out for me. But I believe in this organization with my whole heart and am ready to be there in whatever capacity it takes. CHEER(S)!
