Meet Lexi Fritz – our December 2018 Member of the Month!
Where are you from & what brought you to NYC?
I grew up in southern New Jersey about 15 minutes outside of Philly. We moved to Colorado when I was 13 because my dad (a now retired civil engineer) was asked to take part in the renovation of Denver’s iconic Union Station. I was originally working out of WSP’s Denver Tech Center office when I was asked if I’d like to transfer to the shiny and bright NYC office – of course I said yes! I’ve been here since June and I fall more in love with the city every day.
What led you to being involved on the PR and Communications Committees?
In Colorado, I was an active member of SMPS and was on the communications committee out there. I mainly managed our social media accounts, so I figured when I transferred to the NY chapter I might as well stick to what I know best!
What do you hope to gain from your SMPS-NY membership/experience?
The number one thing I love about SMPS is the connections and friendships that you make. I was so sad to leave all my friends in Colorado behind but I’m excited to continue to meet and work with members here in NY and grow both personally and professionally together.
How has being a member of SMPS-NY influenced your career so far?
When I was introduced to SMPS, I had no idea on how important it would be for my career. I love attending programs that help me with my job, whether that be a workshop on business development or a coordinator’s club about industry-related technical terms. I’m also part of the career mentor program which I know will be a huge help while I get my footing here in NY. So far, SMPS has shown me that there are other people like me, doing the same thing I’m doing, and they are here to help me flourish.
We know every day is different, but what do you do in your role at WSP?
What don’t I do? Whether it’s creating tailored qualifications packages for a big new project, planning and organizing local events, or just answering never-ending emails from my SVPs – I am always busy and love every minute of it. I also occasionally do a little song and dance to lighten the mood, there’s nothing worse than a cranky office!
What’s an ideal Saturday for you?
Since it’s around the holidays, my ideal Saturday would be drinking hot cocoa and walking around the Winter Village in Bryant Park, then venturing to the Upper West Side for a pot of moules et frites at Café du Soleil. Then end the day at home with a glass of wine and a classic holiday film, preferably Elf or Home Alone 2!
What do you like to do in your free time?
Since I’m new to New York I love to explore! Lately I’ve been going to museums and exploring different neighborhoods to find cute restaurants. I’m also a huge book nerd so you can occasionally find me at the NYPL at Bryant Park getting lost in the latest best seller or updating my lifestyle blog, Glitz&Fritz!
Where can we see you in 5 years?
I hope to have more of a senior role within marketing and a stronger focus on business development. Maybe directing a committee? Only time will tell.
