March’s Member of the Month combines her creativity and organization to serve as the Director of Marketing at MdeAS Architects. Kaitlyn Zydel’s passion for the arts is blended conjointly with her understanding and experience in the A/E/C industry. As a member of the public relations committee, Kaitlyn is a valued asset to our New York Chapter. Let’s read below as Kaitlyn has shared some thoughts and ideas with us.
1. Where are you from originally and what brought you to New York City?
I’m from New Jersey- just about a half hour outside of the city. Growing up so close, I always knew I’d end up in NYC.
2. What degree(s) do you hold, and from what schools?
Bachelor of Arts, University of Miami
3. If you could choose any other profession what would it be and why?
I would be an archaeologist or a curator with a focus in decorative arts. I majored in Anthropology at university. I’m completely fascinated with cultures and the stories that can be uncovered through design.
4. Can you tell us more about your SMPS committee work?
I’ve been a member of SMPS-NY for about a year now and have been assisting the PR committee in creating Social Media sheets for various programs, live tweeting at those programs and I’m starting to write press releases. I want to help out wherever I can and learn as much as possible from the team.
5. What are some challenges that you face daily in your career and how do you overcome them?
Finding the perfect balance of business development, marketing and PR. As a marketer in professional services you wear many hats and need to find a harmony of all aspects of the position. Flexibility is key. I enjoy the wide-range of experience the position lends itself to and that every day is different.
