I’m watching baseball’s all-star game right now (rooting for the American league, if you were curious). It is the perfect thing to be in the background as I write this post about four SMPS-NY all-stars: Jason Vesuvio, Andrew Weinberg, Meredith Lovejoy and Margaux Jaffa. What they have in common is that they are almost at their SMPS-NY board finish line – their terms are ending with mine on August 31, 2015.

[expand title=”Click here to read more…”] I hope that the majority of you know Jason, Andrew, Meredith and Margaux. (Meet them if you don’t, you’ll love having them in your network.) They have contributed to this chapter for many years, and our organization is so much better because they volunteer. Collectively, they have held the positions of: President (three of them have played that position), Secretary, Treasurer, Director of Programs, Director of Membership, Director of Communications, Director of Professional Development, Director At-Large. I wasn’t kidding when I said they are all-stars! A note of thanks to each of you, from the president’s point of view: Jason: I paid attention when you led our chapter two years ago and I learned a tremendous amount about leadership from you. This is our third year in the strategic plan that you championed for our chapter, and I hope it makes you very proud to see what we’ve accomplished with respect to our big picture goals. As secretary you kept us organized. As part of the Executive Committee you shared thoughtfully and were essential in making important decisions. (Smart ones!) Andrew: The quintessential SMPS member! I wish that I had organized a deal with you at the beginning of the year such that I got paid for every member who joined our chapter or joined a committee because of your encouragement. I could take a nice vacation with my earnings! Thank you for championing our Striving for Excellence submission this year. National honored us as OUTSTANDING extra-large chapter. You are certainly one of the reasons that SMPS-NY is outstanding, my friend. Meredith: To have you, someone that I have such great respect for, on my executive committee has been incredibly special. At the beginning of my term, you gave me two pieces of advice that I wrote on a post-it note, keep in my SMPS-NY notebook, and refer to all the time. Your input and opinion has been invaluable this year. Thank you for guiding us to a record financial year and overseeing our spending to make sure we made good spending decisions. Margaux: Six for six this year, lady! You took on the huge responsibility of overseeing the team planning for our client panel breakfasts, and you delivered on organizing great events! Here are just a couple of things that I love about what you did this year: you delegated to your committee members to plan programs in their areas of expertise (that is great leadership!); you thought beyond familiar names/companies for your panelists; and you encouraged the panelists to interact so it felt more like being included in their conversations than just listening to a panel. I knew that the qualities that make you a successful runner, would also make you a successful director. I was right! Jason, Andrew, Meredith and Margaux, thank you for being part of this great SMPS-NY year. You are truly all-stars![/expand]
