I took a long victory lap on March 15, 2015. After an injury plagued 2014, I’m back. I ran the NYC Half Marathon! It was far from my best, but just being healthy again feels great. And what made this race really special was that SMPS-NY’s own Andrew Weinberg ran – it was his first half marathon! He set his first PR! What an accomplishment – congratulations!

[expand title=”Click here to read more…”] One of the things that I love about distance running is that it gives me time to think. No headphones, just my thoughts. And during the half marathon, I kept thinking about how unique our chapter is because of our three affiliates: NJ, Westchester and Long Island. It has been an exciting year for our affiliates – and they are just getting started! They worked together to put on a great program on content marketing in February. (Missed it? Check out the highlights here.) Here are the great spring programs that they are working on: On April 8, our NJ Affiliate is hosting a program on higher education in NJ. The panel includes representatives from NJIT, Rutgers University – Newark, The College of New Jersey, and Princeton University (check it out here). I have been privy to is the planning process for this program – and it has been great. The shared excitement, the teamwork, and the dedication of our NJ Affiliate committee is impressive! Connie Luongo (our director), Chris Pedecine, Jeff Taub, Monica Griffith, Krysta Venturella, and all the committee members – thank you, thank you! On May 5, our Long Island affiliate will be hosting a professional development breakfast program on social media with speaker Jerry Allocca. What a terrific topic – the sport of social media is always changing, so our LI affiliate is going to help us marketers figure out the best use of our social media time! Check back to our website soon for more information – our LI Affiliate director, Corrine Collins, and committee members Diana Soldano, Gil Brindley, and Liz Kupcha have a not-to-be-missed program in the works! Our Westchester Affiliate is working on one of my personal favorite types of programs for May 21: a building tour. The buildings being considered are very cool (we’ll let you know the specifics soon!) and after an inside look at a hot new project in the area, we’ll enjoy a happy hour (or two!). Under the direction of Robin Carathanasis, the committee – which includes Ruth Millward, Tara Nicoletti, Pat Neumann, Steve Abbattista, Anastasia Guadron, Ashley Higgins, Jeff Castellano, and Deb Rosenberg – keeps setting programming PRs! Thank you all! Thank you, to our NJ, Westchester, and LI affiliates – what you do is another reason why our chapter is the best! PS. Andrew – I saw lots of “More Cowbell!” signs along the course on Sunday – were those your friends?[/expand]
