David Golab
  • Member, Programs and Leadership Committees
October’s Member of the Month is a familiar face at SMPS NY Chapter events. His work ethic and achievements as the Director of Business Development for Superstructures makes him a role model and valuable member of our organization. Motivated by a true devotion to the A/E/C industry, David has brought a wealth of knowledge to both the Programs and Leadership Committees. Let’s read below as David has shared some of his thoughts and ideas with us.

[expand title=”Read the interview here…”] Where are you from originally and what brought you to New York? I’m originally from the Detroit area, after college I worked in Philadelphia. I came to New York for the abundance of opportunities here. For an AEC business developer, New York City offers a wealth of potential clients: public agencies, hospitals systems, universities, REITS – each with more buildings and budgets than some cities – even some states. Does any other city have three International airports? I’ve been lucky enough to have helped win some nice work for the firm’s that I’ve been with. Until I moved here I was focused on my career. I was also looking for opportunities to do something to expand my horizons and I found it by serving on Manhattan Community Board 5. Board Members are actually considered public officials and get to opine and vote on many of the most important issues in midtown – and meet a lot on interesting people doing it. What motivates you the most as the Director of Business Development for Superstructures Engineers + Architects? Three things motivate me. 1. Knowing that our services, the investigation and restoration of building exteriors, provide safety for everyone on our streets. (In Philadelphia I witnessed a man being crushed to death by a falling parapet) 2. Finding work for a great group of very talented professionals. 3. Having the privilege of being able to introduce building owners and managers to the very best firm to preserve and maintain their building’s exterior. Describe your perfect Saturday? It’s a hot, sunny, summer day. I’m on a wide sandy ocean beach with a slight breeze. My partner Henry has to be there, as does my back pack with sketch materials, watercolors supplies and some reading I need to catch up on. What do you find to be most rewarding about being a member of the Programs and Leadership Committees? SMSP was my first professional organization and remains the best run hands down. I like contributing, brainstorming, and mostly the satisfaction of having landed a key speaker or helping organize a successful program. What SMPS events coming up are you looking forward to attending? I’m looking forward to THE Marketing Event. It always refreshes and invigorates me professionally. I’m also signed up for the next Coordinators Club, Deena Baikowitz, Chief Networking Officer from Fireball Network – she is great and I’m hoping to pick up a few networking pointers.[/expand]
