Adria DeWitt
  • Member, Public Relations Committee
Intelligent, dedicated and outgoing, March’s member of the month is a welcomed addition to our New York chapter. Originally from upstate New York, Adria DeWitt uses her public relations and marketing skill set at Shen Milsom & Wilke, LLC, an international technology design firm. Adria is also being recognized for her contributions to the Public Relations committee, which consist of chapter promotion through social media outlets, along with publicizing of events through pre-promotion and live tweeting. Her efforts are much appreciated and we are fortunate to have her as part of our chapter. Let’s read below as Adria has shared some thoughts and ideas with us.

[expand title=”Click here to read the interview…”] Where are you from originally and what brought you to New York City? I was born and raised in Cicero, New York, just north of Syracuse. Even though upstate New York will always feel like home, part of me always knew that someday I would build a life in NYC, it was just a matter of when. I was inspired by the culture, the opportunities and everything else that New York brings. I discovered my passion for Marketing and PR when I worked in the advertising department for a local TV station in Syracuse after college. Eventually in 2008, circumstances aligned themselves and I had an opportunity to move to NYC. I started working for Shen Milsom & Wilke soon after. What motivated you to join the Public Relations Committee and what is the committee currently working on? When I first joined SMPS, I attended the new member breakfast. I remember showing up feeling a little nervous not knowing what to expect, but I quickly realized that everyone was there for the same reason. Hearing some of the board members and other committee members talk about their experience motivated me to get involved. I chose the Public Relations Committee because I wanted to learn from others with similar interests while also contributing to what I love in the process. It’s been a great experience so far! Each member has brought a different set of skills and it’s been interesting to hear and share ideas in such a supportive environment. Currently, my role is to help promote the chapter through our social media strategy. I’m working on increasing our followers while keeping our content fresh and interesting. I also help publicize our events through pre-promotion and increase our engagement with live tweeting. Can you describe for us a typical day in your public relations role at Shen Milsom & Wilke, LLC? One of the things I love about Public Relations is that every day brings new challenges. Shen Milsom & Wilke is an international technology design firm with 6 core disciplines, so there is always something to learn. I typically start my day by looking over my to-do list and reviewing our marketing calendars for any due dates and upcoming publications. I’m responsible for managing our social media strategy, updating press releases, newsletters, blog posts and researching editorial opportunities. I also work closely with our senior staff by helping prepare for speaking engagements, industry events and conferences. As with most positions within an A/E/C firm, no day is like the other. I tend to keep busy by wearing many hats in addition to our PR functions. One of the great things about Shen Milsom & Wilke is the exposure to all areas of the firm and the opportunity to get involved. Describe your perfect Saturday? My perfect Saturday would be spending a spontaneous day with my husband. I love early Spring when the weather is FINALLY warm and you just have to get outside! We’d get up early and go for a bike ride. Then have brunch somewhere and explore a neighborhood in the city we’re less familiar with. I always like discovering new places. What are some of your favorite movies and televisions shows? This is a hard one. Some of my all-time favorites are Top Gun, Good Will Hunting and anything with Paul Rudd or Ben Stiller. Right now, I’m really into shows like Mad Men and True Detective. And thanks to my husband, I’ve grown to like car shows like Top Gear and Fast-n-Loud or whatever happens to be on the History Channel. [/expand]
