Join SMPS-NY on Tuesday, May 9th to learn about how the Tri-State area’s cultural institutions are planning for the future. Hear about the master planning process institutions go through as they decide to expand or renovate to stay in place. What lessons have our cultural institutions learned from examples in other parts of the US and abroad? And what funding difficulties lie ahead with proposed cuts to the NEA and NEH and how they will impact projects in the Tri-State region?

The panel includes Natasha Caba Caputo, Westchester County, Director Tourism & Film and President, Hudson Valley Tourism who oversees the $1.8 billion travel and tourism industry and plays a huge role in the generation of economic benefits to Westchester County. She is joined by John Darby, Vice President of Facilities for The Shubert Organization, who has spent more than 30 years overseeing maintenance, alterations, and improvements at the Shubert’s seventeen Broadway theatres and numerous other properties, ensuring they remain state-of-the-art. And Daniel Lafuente, Assistant Director, Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, leads SciTech Scity, a 16-acre campus for scientific and technological innovation to round out the regional panel. Kevin Poulin, Ph.D., P.E., Principal at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, will moderate and brings his 25 years of experience as a structural engineer and his passion for restoration and adaptive reuse as well as his work with artists such as Chris Burden, Carsten Holler and Ugo Rondinonde to the discussion.
