What differentiates your firm from your competition?
Our people, their experience, and their long-standing commitment to the firm make SGH unique. We have a diverse team including engineers, architects, scientists, and many other technical professionals. Our principals and project managers average twenty years of employment with SGH. These leaders provide quality of service and team continuity to support our long-term client relationships.
What is your firm doing differently this year to market your services to clients?
SGH opened a Houston office this year. From Houston, SGH will provide its full range of structural and building technology services, with special emphasis on risk assessment and design associated with blast, seismic, hurricane, and other hazards for the petrochemical industry. We see a lot of opportunities in the petrochemical industry and are excited to expand our work for this growing market.
What new trends in the industry do you anticipate affecting your business in the near future?
Environmental issues and energy are a major focus for the industry right now, particularly as the world’s first global deal to combat climate change comes to fruition in Paris. Our Boston office recently hosted a symposium on Planning & Designing for Changing Weather & Natural Hazards to explore how these issues affect our clients and how they can mitigate the risks.
Closely related is the topic of resiliency. SGH is a founding member of the U.S. Resiliency Council (USRC) and has committed significant resources to helping launch its new Earthquake Building Rating System. This first-of-its-kind performance rating is a reliable, transparent, and consistent way to assess a building’s expected performance during an earthquake.
