Nurturing relationships is one of the hallmarks of the SMPS organization, and last week’s client panel program was an exercise in learning how to do just that–with members of the media. Featuring Paul Anthony of Connoisseur Media Long Island; Christa Lauri of FiOS1’s Money & Main$treet; Gabriella Robayo of SmartCEO; and David Winzelberg of Long Island Business News, the program offered staff from architecture, engineering, construction, and other consulting firms in the Long Island region a unique perspective on how to gain coverage for their firms and bring attention to their projects, in print, on air and digitally.
Moderated by Don Miller, President of West End Strategies, Ltd., a veteran public relations professional, the panel discussed how they identify stories, guests and topics, how best to get their ear, and the most effective means by which to contact them. Christa Lauri shared that they are looking to humanize the topics they present, and that marketers should email and call the assignment desk with their timely stories. Gabriella Robayo discussed their numerous Awards opportunities providing tremendous exposure for firms and principals, such as their Corporate Culture and Brava Awards programs, and David Winzelberg indicated that LIBN seeks out actionable business intelligence to provide opportunities for readers.
On the radio side of the media, Paul Anthony offered that the Press Club of Long Island produces a very economical annual media directory – a critical resource to have in the marketer’s toolkit. Panelists agreed that press releases be user friendly, using bullet points and catchy subject lines, and that follow-up is essential.
The Meet the Media panel in many ways proved to be a broad sample of what SMPS is all about–giving marketers the tools they need in order to help succeed, including those that help them bring attention to their firms and their projects.Tags: Event Recap
