Toni Taylor

Create & Share Media

A veteran of the AEC industry, May’s Member of the Month is an invaluable contributor to our New York Chapter. Toni Taylor is principal of Create & Share Media, an integrated marketing firm. Her efforts on the Special Events committee meet our chapter’s expectations daily. Her description below of how important the built space is and how our influence on the design industry as marketer’s effects it, is a concept that we should all take the time to understand. Let’s read below as Toni has shared some of her thoughts and ideas with us.

    1. 1. Where are you from originally and what brought you to New York?
I’m originally from Kansas City, MO. Being trained as a dancer and choreographer, I came to NYC via Boston many moons ago to pursue my passion. Over the years, the useful cross pollination between my arts and marketing background continually amazes and inspires me.

  • 2. How has being a member of SMPS influenced your career thus far?
The professional development opportunities provided by SMPS provide a valuable benchmark for the services I offer my clients. The CPSM certification also gives my current and future clients confidence that the solutions and skills I bring to their marketing strategy issues are grounded in the most current and best industry thinking.

  • 3. Can you better describe your Principal role at Create & Share Media and what types of services your company offers?
As Principal in Create & Share Media, I lead a small team offering integrated marketing strategy and implementation services to start ups, small businesses, and non-profits. Representative projects include naming and marketing strategy for a consulting start up, a website re-design for a small media company, and annual legislative campaigns for a small non-profit.

  • 4. Can you provide some advice for those that are new to the A/E/C industry?
With most of my family in Kansas City being in the building trades, I’ve often thought I was an architect in a previous life. I have a potentially silly romance with the built space and how it affects all aspects of our lives. With that in mind, I encourage those new to the A/E/C industry to embrace that romance, whilst working through the non-stop cadence of the never ending to do list. Remember, everyone in our industry is creating the space in which we all live, work, play, and are inspired. That’s a huge contribution to the human condition. Revel in it!

  • 5. What blogs and websites do you visit on a regular basis? Do you follow any industry influencers on social media?
As a news junkie, The NYT and Washington Post is the morning reading. For inspiration, I follow as they apply design thinking principals to fascinating problems. I’m always looking for great examples of elegant, efficient ways of expressing ideas, is a regular stop for me. I also read anything related to the clients of my clients, as it helps me keep them focused on their clients.
