The workplace is undergoing dramatic changes and the design profession is leading the way in creating more flexibility for the way we work today. A more collaborative work-culture is defining a different use of space, though private spaces and offices are still needed for some functions and in some more traditional professions. Co-working spaces bring together people who need to move beyond working at home or out of their local café into a professional environment with shared resources that allow for serendipitous exchanges. Flexible work schedules and shared offices bring challenges and rewards in terms of reducing square footage per employee, but increasing space for shared amenities such as smart walls, conference rooms and gathering spaces. What trends are we seeing in workplace design today, and what is envisioned for the workplace of tomorrow? In what ways will technological advancements continue to shape the workplace? Join our panel of industry experts for an in-depth look at these issues and how they affect design, engineering, and construction of the ever-changing workplace.

The panel will be moderated by Amanda Carroll, IIDA, Principal and Technology Practice Area Leader at Gensler. She leads a studio of architects and designers working with clients such as Etsy, TED, Blue Apron, Vox, FanDuel and Hulu. The panelists include Phil Kirschner, Senior Vice President in the JLL Consulting Group, and the leader of Workplace Strategy practice for the northeast United States; John Arenas, Chief Executive Officer, Serendipity Labs, an upscale coworking brand with a national network of suburban and urban locations; Anne Bergman, Director, Design Strategy and Construction Services at American Express, where she leads global real estate design guidelines and standards and BlueWork, Amex’ flexible workplace program; and Josh Wise, Director of Facilities at Etsy, who has just completed their new Living Building in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn.
