Dedicated, organized, and self-motivated best describes February’s Member of the Month. Lucy Finnegan serves as the marketing manager at Horizon Engineering Associates, LLP as well as a contributing member of the SMPS-NY Communications Committee. Her background in education and history has served her well as a communicator and planner. Let’s read below as Lucy has shared some of her thoughts and ideas with us.
1. Where are you from originally and what brought you to New York City?
Born in NYC and raised in Queens. Working in NYC just seemed like the natural thing to do.
2. What degree(s) do you hold, and from what schools?
I have a Bachelor of Science in Inclusive Education with a Minor in History from Fordham University. My academic background has helped me immensely with observing and identifying ways to create materials that communicates to a range of personalities. I have also completed several continuing education courses in Marketing through NYU’s School of Professional Studies.
3. Describe your perfect Saturday.
My perfect Saturday would begin by waking up – without the alarm clock – followed by a lazy afternoon picnic or enjoying some sunshine on the Boardwalk down at Seaside Heights, NJ.
4. Can you tell us more about your involvement with the Communications Committee and what new things the committee is working on?
I joined the Communications Committee about 2 years ago. I started with creating special events collateral, such as the TME and SMPS-NY Awards Gala programs. Since the Communications Committee handles a variety of tasks, including web maintenance, email, and graphics, I had the opportunity to learn more about WordPress and am now involved with updating and maintaining http://smpsny.org/.
The Communications Committee is dedicated to keeping all SMPS-NY members informed and connected. To further this, we’ve recently empowered several members to become active blog writers for the Spotlight Blog on the chapter’s website. The Communications Committee is truly wonderful; I have the pleasure of working with and getting to know so many brilliantly talented marketers.
5. What blogs do you read on a regular basis?
I love reading about a good DIY/home improvement project; especially with tons of before and after photos. Some of my favorites are Door Sixteen, Manhattan Nest and Yellow Brick Home.
